Vent-Free Gas Log FAQ's, Help, and Tutorials
We carry Monessen, White Mountain Hearth, Ventis, and Heat&Glo Vent-Free Gas Logs
All Gas Logs are made up of two separate pieces: the burner, and the decorative ceramic or cement logs which sit on top of the burner.
We will not install Gas Logs in a bedroom and it is required that Gas Logs be installed in either an existing wood fireplace, which can safely burn wood, or in a vent-free firebox.
Gas Logs are more for decoration, but they do provide some heat. In terms of heating, Vent-Free Gas Logs are your best bet. Almost all exhaust from these, including heated air and the warm exhaust gases, comes back into your room. Being clean burning, Vent-Free Gas Logs exhaust contains only water vapor and CO2 (not CO, which is poisonous). Because Vent-Free Gas Logs must be clean burning, the positioning of the logs after install must remain the same.
It is recommended by the manufacturers that logs are cleaned and the burners are serviced once per year by a certified service person. Delaying this cleaning for too long can result in a build-up of dust and other debris in the fireplace which can result in an unsafe and unclean burn.
Gas Logs can range anywhere from $1000 to $2500, all considered, depending on gas-line and complexity and features of the burner.
