Vent Free Gas Insert FAQ's, Help, and Tutorials
We Carry White Mountain Hearth and Monessen Vent-Free Gas Inserts
Vent free inserts are fireboxes which are set into an existing wood-burning fireplace which burn a small, clean burning, gas flame (propane or natural gas). Because these products are vent free and clean burning, they release carbon dioxide (not the poisonous carbon monoxide) and water vapor into the room in which they are installed. This water vapor can potentially condense on cold objects (like cold windows) if on long enough.
Because these units do vent into the room and use air from the room to burn, it is recommended that you use these appliances for only three to five hours at a time.
All vent free products are mostly for show, but will produce heat which can heat a smaller room. This is because the flame must be small and controlled to be clean burning, limiting how much heat a vent free unit will produce for a room.
